Margareth Gfrerer graduated from the Karl-Franzens-University Graz (Austria) with a Doctor’s Degree in Economics and a Master’s Degree in Economics Education. Her second Master’s Degree she holds from the University of Economics and Business, Vienna (Austria) in International Commerce.

After years in the industry, she returned to higher education as a senior lecturer and researcher. Margareth Gfrerer has been awarded Professorship by the Austrian Council of the University of Applied Sciences. As researcher her focus has
been on liberalisation and privatisation of infrastructure services. After 12 years of lecturing and researching in Indonesia, she moved to Ethiopia in 2016, where she worked as Education Scientist at the Higher Education Strategy Centre in Addis Ababa with special focus on differentiation of the higher education sector in Ethiopia, increasing attractiveness of TVET,
increasing the digital literacy of researchers and Open Science.

In 2020 she has been assigned as managing director of the Ethiopian Institute for Higher Education. During all her years in
the higher education sector, Margareth Gfrerer has been actively involved in Women in Science activities globally and explicitly in R-Ladies Addis Ababa.
